Hiring activity related to cloud increased by a CAGR of 25% in the packaging industry since 2020

The global packaging industry witnessed a 25% rise in compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in new job postings related to cloud since 2020, according to GlobalData's Job Analytics database. New job postings increased by 60% year-on-year in 2021 but declined by 3% year-on-year in 2022.  

Notably, computer and mathematical occupations jobs accounted for 43% share of the global packaging industry’s cloud-related new job postings since 2020. 

Computer and mathematical occupations drive cloud-related hiring activity 

Computer and mathematical occupations, with a share of 43%, emerged as the top cloud-related job roles within the packaging industry since 2020, with new job postings rising by 36% year-on-year in 2021 and by 35% year-on-year in 2022.  

Management occupations came in second with a share of 18%, with new job postings rising by 54% year-on-year in 2021 and by 1% year-on-year in 2022.  

The other prominent cloud roles include production occupations with a 16% share, business and financial operations occupations, and installation, maintenance, and repair occupations with a 5% share each.  

The top five companies in the packaging industry accounted for 65% of hiring activity  

The top five companies, in terms of the number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, since 2020 were Avery Dennison, CKS Packaging, Ardagh Group, Ball, and Tetra Laval International. Together they accounted for a combined share of 65% of all cloud-related new jobs in the packaging industry.  

Avery Dennison posted 460 cloud-related jobs since 2020, followed by CKS Packaging Inc with 450 jobs, and Ardagh Group with 165 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.  

New job postings by Avery Dennison increased by 62% year-on-year in 2021 and by 53% year-on-year in 2022, while those by CKS Packaging Inc increased by 64% in 2021 but fell by 70% in 2022.  

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 59% share of total new job postings since 2020

The largest share of cloud-related new job postings in the packaging industry since 2020 was in the US with 59%, followed by India (5%) and Canada (4%). The share represented by the US decreased by nine percentage points from 61% in 2021 to 52% in 2022.
