The paper and packaging industry have witnessed a significant surge in merger and acquisition (M&A) activity, with over 2,000 transactions since 2007. This flurry of deals comes from two kinds of players. There are the companies that already work with paper and packaging. Then, there are private equity (PE) players from the outside, coming in and creating new value with their acquisitions.
Tikehau Capital acquires 25% stake in Brandart
France-based alternative asset management group Tikehau Capital has acquired a 25% stake in share capital of Italian packaging company Brandart. The deal marks Tikehau’s 14th investment so far in its history. It is also the sixth private equity transaction it has completed in Italy since 2019, after making investments in DoveVivo, Assiteca, EuroGroup, MINT, and Ecopol.
LyondellBasell invests in first close of Plastic Circularity Fund
LyondellBasell has invested in the first close of the Lombard Odier Investment Managers (LOIM) Plastic Circularity Fund SCSPp (Plastic Circularity Fund). The fund provides investment for solutions that address plastic waste pollution and lower greenhouse gas emissions in the plastic value chain. Since 2021, LyondellBasell has invested $44m in venture capital funds.
MEI Rigging & Crating acquires professional packaging firm ProPack
MEI Rigging & Crating, a portfolio company of Olympus Partners, has announced the acquisition of Georgia, US based professional packaging and crating company ProPack International. After the completion of this transaction, the employee-owned and operated packaging company will be integrated with the existing operations of MEI in Atlanta.
